Cate Blanchett Louis Vuitton

Nightmare Alley. Don’t Look Up. Truth. The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button. The Talented Mr. Ripley. The Aviator. Blue Jasmine. Academy Award-winning actress Cate Blanchett’s illustrious career credits make her one of those supernovas – read: there’s always a collective interest in her newest roles. And the 53-year-old’s big new project will see her as Louis Vuitton’s newest House Ambassador, it was announced this afternoon.

Captured by photographer Sølve Sundsbø, Blanchett’s series of portraits for the French Maison see her showing off Louis Vuitton’s latest High Jewellery collection, Spirit, the angular styling contrasting a soft curl.

In a statement, the 168-year-old storied house noted that the collection embodies five themes: liberty, fantasy, grace, radiance and destiny, values chosen by Artistic Director of Watches and Jewellery Francesca Amfitheatrof. Blanchett – in her elegance and stylishness – would be one of just a few actresses who exemplify all of these qualities, and the timelessness of the Louis Vuitton woman.

“I am extremely excited to have this opportunity to collaborate with Louis Vuitton – a truly iconic House with an enormous cultural reach,” Blanchett says. “To wear the magnificent pieces created by Francesca Amfitheatrof is a bedazzling pleasure, and Nicolas Ghesquiere, as ever, amazes and inspires me.”

The campaign will launch on July 2.

The announcement comes in an otherwise big month for the luxury house. Just last week the brand announced a big reason to visit the French Riviera this European summer: it’s opened of a restaurant in St. Tropez. There was also a big LV moment with Alicia Vikander on the Cannes red carpet (see it here if you missed the metallic dream), and the house still have people talking about their Cruise 2023 collection, a post-apocalyptic extravaganza staged in San Diego.

We cannot wait for Blanchett’s LV high voltage (and high jewellery) red carpet appearances. The Venice International Film Festival, perhaps?
