Burberry stepped into the future at London Fashion Week with their first see-now-buy-now presentation, but the beauty worn by the models and front rowers alike collectively threw back to the house’s trademark British-cool equation that we’ve come to know and love from the house. From Edie Campbell’s I’m-with-the-band shaggy chop to Felicity Jones’ kohl-line eyed and Lily James’ upgraded balayage and matte bronzed cheeks, it was a laid-back, London girl beauty reverie.

Never one to fall in line, Cara Delevigne teamed her own BrIT-girl beauty combination with a bold body tattoo. The model-now-actress paired her plunging gothic-girl ensemble with a single, solid black line running from below her jawline and straight down the centre of her chest.

While her black body paint was focussed on her chest, her look instantly reminded of Lily Collin’s futuristic and simplistic silver line at this year’s Met gala, as Sarah and Sebastian’s face jewellery for Dion Lee’s Spring/Summer 2016 show. An advocate and proud owner of permanent tattoos, Delevingne’s newest statement appears to fall into the temporary category but could the steady hand efforts of her make-up artist start a new trend?

Frankly for the past few seasons it felt like you couldn’t swing a lanyard at a festival without the fear of flaking off someone’s metallic flash tattoo – could Cara’s pared-back body art efforts be this year’s answer to the boho trompe l’oile tattoos of summer’s past? If so and you’re thinking of attempting a similar look this summer be sure to take two things into consideration. First, the straighter the line the better, bumps aren’t chic. And secondly, ditch the body lotion and opt for a waterproof, flake-proof formula for a statement that will make it through a humid summer day in place.
