Celebrating the best in pop music, the 2018 Brit Awards took place at London’s O2 Arena overnight. A few noteworthy things:

  • Ariana Grande was set to perform a tribute to the Manchester attack victims of last May but, on doctor’s orders, was unable to fly to the U.K. at the last minute. Oasis great Liam Gallagher stepped in to replace her.
  • Harry Styles (controversially) took home the British Artist Video Of The Year Award for his single Sign Of The Times.
  • After years of predictable Best Male Artist winners (David Bowie, Robbie Williams, Ed Sheeran), refreshingly, Stormzy took home the honour. Performing a freestyle rap on stage, he attacked British Prime Minister Theresa May asking where the money is post the Grenfell tower inferno. He did so shirtless.
  • Ellie Goulding was the first to acknowledge the Time’s Up initiative. The singer thanked those who wore a white rose on the red carpet as a gesture in solidarity against sexual harassment (and an alternative to the all-black red carpets we’ve seen at the Golden Globes and BAFTA Awards).
  • And Ed Sheeran had the arena in tears when he sang Supermarket Flowers in memory of his late grandmother.
