If you’re still recovering from Miu Miu’s extremely low-rise, extremely midriff-baring Paris Fashion Week show, we have some bad news to share. Not only is there no denying the return of the early aughts when it comes to our waistlines, but the trend is now making its way to dresses.

Brace yourself because bodycons are back.

Of course, it makes sense: for a few seasons now, mirroring the anticipation of the pandemic’s end and a Hot Girl Summer, we’ve been ditching the oversized beige looks of pre-pandemic life (and loungewear of mid-pandemic life) for tighter, more sexy looks. Corsets are everywhere, so too are short hemlines, and if you look closely, we’ve been seeing the trend turn to bodycon, too.

The reemergence of the tight mini dress has been dotted among the runways of everyone from Bottega Veneta to Chanel to Khaite and next-gen stars Charlotte Knowles and Nensi Dojaka. It’s also made its way to tight body celebs such as Dua Lipa and Bella Hadid.

But because these designers and celebs have been mixing it up by adding cut-outs, strappy detailing and layered fabrics, their take on the trend didn’t feel as confronting as the likes of the uber tight bandage dresses of our youth.

However, if you thought we’d gotten away with skipping the bandage bodycon altogether, unfortunately, that doesn’t look to be the case. Yesterday, Victoria Beckham was photographed leaving her hotel in New York City wearing none other than a colour-blocked bodycon.

The red dress in question was one-shouldered (another early aughts reemerging trend) and midi length, a refreshing change from the minis we’ve been seeing in abundance (and far more of a wearable daytime hemline).

Beckham wore matching Manolo Blahnik heels, and a chain-strap Bottega Veneta bag to finish her look. Though we hate to admit it, she looked good. Whether us mere mortals would look the same in such skintight attire remains to be seen, but in the meantime, I’m off to stock up on SKIMS.
