There was a moment in time when it felt like no red carpet was complete without Blake Lively. The actress dominated the Cannes Film Festival long before Bella Hadid, and made the Met Gala—fashion’s biggest event of the year—her personal runway, even beside the likes of Rihanna and Kim Kardashian.
Prior to the pandemic, Lively took a step back from the spotlight after announcing (via yet another fashion moment) she was expecting her third child with husband Ryan Reynolds. Though the cameras were poised and ready for her, she even opted to skip the Met Gala in 2019. Then, of course, the world went into lockdown and, subsequently, we said goodbye to any and all glamorous A-list moments for the entirety of 2020.
Now, as the world slowly reopens, celebrities are returning to their rightful places: in front of a lot of cameras wearing designer gowns, while the rest of us continue rotating between leggings and loungewear. Lively included.
For the 33-year-old’s first red carpet event since January 2020, Lively opted for a sequin pink and silver Prabal Gurung dress featuring on trend cut-outs in the midriff and sides. She wore her hair pulled back into her signature ponytail, adding a braid and silver chain to match her gown.
Her actor husband meanwhile wore a beige Brunello Cucinelli suit and black-and-white plaid shirt with brown suede shoes and a paisley pocket square.
The couple’s night out comes just days after they celebrated their 10-year-anniversary by going back to the restaurant where they had their first date all those years ago. “10 years later. We still go out on our ‘first date,'” Lively wrote alongside a photo of them showing off their relaxed date night looks. “But in much more comfortable shoes.”
Lively later posted a photo of Reynolds standing in front of Boston sushi eatery O Ya, writing, “If it weren’t for this place. We wouldn’t be together. No joke. No restaurant means more to us.”
Lively and Reynolds met in 2010 when they starred in the movie Green Lantern together. They began dating a year later, after initially trying to set each other up with their friends, and tied the knot in September 2012. They now have three daughters, James, 6½, Inez, 4½, and 21-month-old Betty.
Let’s hope this marks the beginning of Lively’s red carpet return.
