Nothing says payback like Ryan Gosling. When Blake Lively celebrated her 30th birthday a couple of months ago, her husband Ryan Reynolds, posted an image to Instagram of himself and the Gossip Girl alum to celebrate the date. The thing was, he jokingly cut half of Lively’s head out of it and captioned it, “Happy Birthday to my amazing wife”.
The actress who has been married to Reynolds since 2012 and parents two daughters with him used his 41st birthday to get revenge on him. Lively featured a picture of Blade Runner: 2049 star Ryan Gosling and a half-cut off picture of Reynolds. Captioned, “Happy Birthday, baby”, the joke was on Reynolds.
In May, the Deadpool actor praised Lively in Humans of New York. “She always responds with empathy,” he said. “She meets anger with empathy. She meets hate with empathy. She’ll take the time to imagine what happened to a person when they were five or six years old. And she’s made me a more empathetic person.”
Empathy she certainly did. And the return prank was straight out of Kim Kardashian’s book of How To Pay Out On Steph Shep. (You might remember the reality star did the exact same thing to her assistant in a series of Instagram hilarious posts).
Lively recently made headlines for calling out Hollywood’s swept-under-the-carpet treatment of women but some viewed this as hypocritical given the actress’ support for director Woody Allen. “I don’t think it’s a film-industry-specific story. I think that we have a lot to be talking about as a world, as a country,” Lively said. “What has happened in this past year since the election is that women have really stood up for themselves a lot more – I think we realise how much further we have to go than we thought we did.”
