It’s a global truth that you’re spoilt for choice when you walk into any given Sephora store. With the likes of Fenty Beauty, Milk Makeup, Anastasia Beverly Hills, Tarte and It Cosmetics lining the aisles, it’s easy to either a). buy everything in sight or b). get overwhelmed and leave empty handed.

Either way, a little bit of well-placed beauty shopping advice is sure to be of value, so we’ve tapped Angelique Hogan, Sephora Director of Retail Education for SEA to share with us some shopping insights, and some top sellers across the makeup and skincare categories right now. From trends to the foundation of the minute, keep scrolling for Hogan’s expert tips.

GRAZIA: What’s been the biggest trend you’ve seen in beauty consumer behaviour over the last 1-18 months at Sephora, and why do you think this is?

Angelique: Many things have changed in the last 18 months and so too have our beauty routines. With more work from home, mask wearing and less social interaction the dependence on makeup decreased. With a strong new focus on skin and hair, slow beauty became king. Skin and hair treatments, at home pampering products, skin tools and solutions to combat the dreaded maskne took precedence.  Only now are we seeing people returning to makeup as we start to venture out of the house. Mask wearing continues to influence preferences with foundation, the finish is natural, the texture is lightweight, but above all else the formula is long wear like Fenty Beauty Eaze Drop Blurring Skin Tint Foundation. We are also starting to see people having more fun with eye makeup, using colour, textures and leaning in to 60’s and 90’s inspiration.

GRAZIA: Anything that’s surprised you – say a product or sub-category that’s experienced a boom?

Angelique: With more time spent indoors I was surprised (but very happy) to see Clients investing in SPF protection such as Ultra Violette Clean and Queen Screen products. More specifically for their blue light protection benefits as more time was spent starring at screens.

GRAZIA: Based on consumer trends and market data, what changes do you think we’re going to see in beauty across the next five years?

Angelique: I believe as the world opens up and people begin start to reconnect and socialise again, there will be a new sense of freedom and fun which will trigger a strong resurgence in beauty with a particular focus on makeup and colour.
