The Best Dressed Men At The Venice International Film Festival
A how-to guide to dressing like a real movie star
Jacob Elordi in Valentino and Bottega Veneta; Patrick “McDreamy” Dempsey in Brunello Cucinelli; Mads Mikkelsen in Zegna: the Venice International Film Festival remains one of the best places to catch some of the best-dressed men all in the one place.
While the red carpet and media calls might have been a little bit lighter in numbers than previous years courtesy of the SAG-AFTRA strikes currently underway, those that were able to attend (because the smaller, independent studios they were working with actually signed up to the agreed terms put forward by the unions as Ferrari star Adam Driver pointed out) still delivered top notch men’s styling.
Both in ways that suits are still the power move for menswear but also how to nail casual luxe.
Danish actor and Zegna ambassador Mads Mikkelsen was the blueprint here, in tonal shades of brown while travelling on the water taxis before shifting into a relaxed-cut suit (all Zegna, of course). Valentino creative director Pier Paolo Piccioli delivered similar dualities: tonal white layering on the boat before a pristine, razor sharp white suit for the red carpet at the Priscilla premier.
The traditional tux was everpresent for the red carpet premiers it was the more offbeat wardrobes that carried the day: Wes Anderson’s pink seersucker suit – a variation on a theme that the director wears every summer – with its flared trousers cut just shy of his tan loafers.
Fellow auteur Luca Guadagnino’s brought subtle detail to his tailoring with white piping along the edges of his blazer for one event while Japanese actor Mirai Moriyama delivered three generations of flawless style along with his Hokage co-star Oga Tsukao and director Shinya Tsukamoto.
