Finding an argument for adding another product to your beauty routine in a post-Marie Kondo world is a challenge – but if having shiny, easy-to-style hair “brings you joy” then might we suggest slotting a clarifying shampoo into your line-up. Working deeper than a standard shampoo, clarifying formulas will help cleanse your scalp and strands of product build-up and grease –both of which can cause irritation, poor hair health and dull strands that will struggle to hold a style. And with the “no-poo” concept of washing your hair less often fast becoming the norm for many (thanks for the tip, Kim Kardashian) switching out your standard shampoo for a clarifying formula once a month will work wonders for your hot styling efforts.

Of course a clarifying shampoo will work overtime in the summer season, where saltwater, sweat and chlorine can rack up irreversible strand damage, breakage and scalp irritation if left unattended. (Think: fried, lacklustre beach waves that fall flat and frizzy within hours) Saying that, detoxing shampoos can be drying too, so be sure to follow up with a rich, hydrating treatment masque, which will repent your hair’s summer sins before they gain ground. Just swim, cleanse, rinse and repeat!
