Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s honeymoon in Paris has been all over the headlines this week for a multitude of reasons. First, there were photos of the newlywed’s respective Euro summer style, then yesterday Affleck went viral when he fell asleep on a boat – and was papped doing so – and now, the paparazzi have struck gold again. But this time for a more sombre reason.
In a similar fashion to when Justin Bieber was photographed in an emotional embrace with his then soon-to-be wife Hailey Bieber, Affleck has been caught having a tender moment with his new bride during her 53rd birthday dinner at the upscale Parisian restaurant, La Girafe.
The pair went to the restaurant, which is located in front of the Eiffel Tower, alone for a date on Lopez’s birthday evening with the singer wearing a black figure-hugging dress with a cut-out at the hip and a thick pearl necklace, while Affleck matched her in a dapper black suit.
In the images taken while the couple were sitting down at dinner, Affleck is seen crying while looking at Lopez, who immediately leans in to comfort him. And though we (sadly) don’t know exactly what was said, an eyewitness has now spoken to E! about what happened in the moment, along with how Lopez reacted.
Despite their children also being on the trip, “it was just the two of them,” the source said. “They were seated in a private back corner surrounded by beautiful greenery and a balloon at the table.”
“At one point Ben teared up and began to cry,” they continued “J.Lo was very loving and cradled his face. She held him and kissed his forehead stroking his cheek. Soon he was smiling again and laughing.”
Though one can only speculate, perhaps Affleck was brought to tears in the city of love when thinking about the fairytale ending to his and Lopez’s long love story.
In December, the actor touched on the beauty of having a second chance at love with Lopez, who he was first engaged to over two decades ago, before ultimately breaking up due to the pressures of the spotlight in 2004. In an interview with WSJ magazine, he said, “I am very lucky in my life in that I have benefited from second chances, and I am aware that other people don’t even get first chances. I’ve had second chances in my career. I’ve had second chances as a human being. Life is difficult, and we are always failing and hopefully learning from those failures. The one thing you really need to avail yourself of the opportunities provided from that growth is the second chance.”
“I’ve definitely tried to take advantage of that,” Affleck continued. “I haven’t always been successful, but in cases in which I have, they’ve turned out to be the defining aspects of my life. But tell your wife to imagine the best story [of how Lopez and I got back together], and I’m sure that’s the true version.”
