A classic relationship debacle involves cases of push-pull. Person A gives everything to the relationship in order to make it better while Person B takes such effort for granted and pulls away. As a result Person A becomes exhausted, tired and doesn’t have much interest the relationship. They pull away. Of course, Person B then realises what they have lost and begs for forgiveness. Such was the case for Jennifer Garner (A) and Ben Affleck (B).

According to new report in US Weekly, the couple spent a good two years trying to save their marriage before announcing its end in 2015. “She put her heart and soul into fixing the relationship and wanted so desperately to turn things around for the children’s sake as well as theirs,” Garner’s friend told the publication. “She forgave him for so much, and still he couldn’t change.”

“He’s begged her to come back several times, but she has no interest.” (We love even more that Garner turned up at the Oscar Awards this month looking the best she’s ever looked. Sad Ben may be sadder for a little longer.)

While the Batman VS Superman actor is officially in a relationship with Saturday Night Live producer Lindsay Shookus, he’s reportedly telling friends he wants his ex back. Garner and Affleck allegedly became close to reconciliation when Affleck was seeking help via rehab for alcoholism. “When Ben was in rehab, Jennifer was there every day, visiting,” says the source. “They did family counselling to work on their relationship. Things looked positive. Jennifer was very caring, very present. They both wanted it to work.” Ultimately the actress knew Affleck would always have his struggles and let him go.
