No matter if you’re about to spontaneously combust from the heatwave in Europe, or are convinced you’ve turned into an actual icicle on the east coast of Australia, the wide-legged boy pant is the lowly slung star of the season.
Little by little, brands have been introducing lower rise trousers to their forever stables but it was Bella Hadid’s utilitarian take on the trend that caught this editor’s eye across the weekend. Reintroducing: parachute pants. A key 80s trend, parachute pants (also known back then as bugle boy pants) sat somewhere between the baggy harems of the hippie era and the cargo pants of the 90s. The likes of Hailey Bieber have been teasing us with their revival for some months, but there was something about Hadid’s all-black styling that made it more accessible, trans-seasonal and trans-geographical.
The 25-year-old was spotted out on the streets of Chelsea in New York last week in a pair of hip-grazing parachute pants. Interestingly the supermodel (who has an affinity for Y2K dressing) teemed the baggy silhouette with a sheer tube top and belt, a combo fellow New York model Emily Ratajkowski tried out outside the Balenciaga show at Haute Couture Fashion Week in Paris on July 6.
From travel, to work, to drinks at a bar, we love the trend when teemed with the tube top. Shop the best low rise offerings from Australian designers below.
