Bella Hadid was praised on Met Gala Monday for her bonadge-esque leather and lace gown courtesy of Burberry. The gothic glamour continued with the after party where she stepped out in a barely-there custom ensemble by Dilara Findikoglu. But in a new conversation with Interview Magazine, the supermodel had almost opted for another, equally as mesmerising gown.
Hadid shared a series of behind-the-scene film photos captured by beau Marc Kalman with the publication, which were later published to her own Instagram account. She was seen at times wearing a tiny grey chiffon ensemble. “And then who is this gray dress girl, she’s really hot,” the journalist asked.
“Okay, so that is Jean Paul Gaultier fall/winter 2004, but that was the original from the archives,” Hadid explained. “The JPG team is just amazing with me, I feel so lucky. They let me go through and razzle dazzle their archive, and Gabi slayed by somehow getting that from Paris to here, so I was like, ‘I can’t let her just go back to Paris without taking her for a spin.'”
The vintage piece featured long strips of chiffon which were attached to a wire bodice, that spiralled around the breasts and emblazoned in blue feathers.
The 25-year-old went on in the interview to admit that she seemingly “blacked out” on the Met Gala red carpet. “Now that I look back, I realise that people literally stand there for 20 minutes and they give. I looked once to the left, once to the right, and I ran up the stairs. I don’t think I was out there for more than three minutes. I don’t know if that was my anxiety, or maybe the waist was giving cinch and I couldn’t breathe.”
Hadid has quietly dated Kalman for two years. To conclude her Met Gala interview, she gave a brief insight into life with the creative director. “He does this funny thing where he puts the camera down by his belly, so sometimes I literally don’t even know that he’s taking a photo… These photos are really personal because I don’t let people in my space like that.”
