AFW: Precious Metal. At Bec + Bridge Resort 2025, Silver Comes In First Place

Drawing inspiration from the ancient craft of metalwork, metallic accents, reminiscent of molten metal, are smattered onto trousers, shirts and boots

As the sun’s afternoon rays pattered the sails of Sydney’s iconic Opera House, Bec + Bridge’s Resort 2025 show lit up across the way. A collared greyscale shirt—stiff and structured—sported two silver cups at its bust. While small, they were a prelude to what was to come: a collection unexpectedly inspired by the ancient craft of metalwork.

Soon, metallic trousers—malleable and reminiscent of molten metal—stormed the runway, its matching crinkled jacket following closely behind and pared back with a tailored slate skort. The front of a pair of black tailored pants were overcome with a smattering of silver beads, while space-age silver boots did the walking and talking, adding a western twang. Yes, working silver into the wardrobe rotation this season wasn’t exactly on the bingo card, but is a sure-fire way to shine.

“We’re having a very silver moment in jewellery, especially chunky heavy silver jewellery, so why can’t that extend to fashion?” remarks GRAZIA’s Fashion Director Aileen Marr. “The silver metallic on denim reminds me of Margiela in the 2000 when he spray painted silver on denim pieces. It was genius.”

“There is a synergy between the seeming contradictions of strength and grace, rigidity and sensuality, the feminine and masculine,” the show notes read.

Of course, there were the usual suspects. Form-fitting dresses with drop waists flowed in azure blue, black and butter yellow. Low-slung skirts with sensual side draping were carried over into long dresses with sheer bodices. There was sharp shouldered suiting, the perfect slouchy trouser-and-racer-combo, and the re-launch of denim in raw Japanese and indigo laser-cuts. Perhaps the star piece, however, was a 90s-inspired simple, sheer black halter dress—its hemline asymmetric, and its vibe aligned with a good wine bar and girlfriends.

Whatever your favourite piece—and even if it’s one with silver—sartorially speaking, there’s certainly no coming in second here.
