Versace can always be counted on to bring some sex appeal to fashion week, but the SS23 show that took place overnight in Milan was something else entirely.
With cameos from Bella and Gigi Hadid (the sister duo who have been noticeably absent from fashion month so far), Em Rata and a hot pink closing look courtesy of Paris Hilton, the show was social media catnip. The collection itself — gothic, slinky, chock full of micro hemlines — was overarchingly dark and sultry, and with a beauty look to match.
Created by fashion week dream team Pat McGrath and Guido Palau, the brief was evocative, dramatic and purple (fittingly, the colour of royalty). McGrath used the rich hue on eyes and lips, creating fierce wings on some models and a bold lip on others. The eye in particular was tempered with deep turquoise and pops of gold, a regal look for Donatella’s army of supermodels.

Hair, created by Palau, was either pulled back or worn out long and straight — the common denominator was slick, shiny and glossed to perfection.
Bold and rebellious, it was a collection for the ages, and further proof that Donatella’s Versace girl is one we all want to be.
