Cocktails and caviar were on the menu at the Michael Lo Sordo Afterpay Australian Fashion Week show last night — a decadent collection of slinky dresses, diamond detailing and sumptuous fabrics that celebrated a return to after dark glamour.

“The cruise collection is inspired by the glamour of disco, showgirls and nightlife… celebrating when the sun goes down, and the party is just about to begin,” founder and Creative Director Lo Sordo tells GRAZIA.

Held at Crown’s penthouse villa and overlooking a glittering Sydney skyline, the non-traditional show saw models descend a spiral staircase, swathed in pieces of silk satin, tiny crystal undergarments and daring silhouettes — all in an understated palette of cool black and crisp white.

For Lo Sordo, who is known and loved for his party pieces, this specific collection was a supercharged version — a tribute to the frivolity of life after lockdown: “The collection is all about embracing and elevating evening wear, celebrating our new found freedom.”

Lo Sordo also partnered with Ryan Storer to co-create some of the jewelled details — tiny crystal thongs, gilt bralettes and diamante chains worn around the ears and neck.

“The key colour scheme for this season is classic black and white, mixing lustrous silk satins with cool, elevated jersey — mixing in bejewelled elements that catch the light at the sun goes down.”

The show also served up some of the hottest, chicest beauty we’ve seen this week to date. Makeup specifically was led by Victoria Baron using ModelCo. Skin was bronzed and luminous, eyes were smudgy, lips were bare and brows were fluffy but raw. Everything was also a little damp and dishevelled, as if it had been partially smudged off on a heaving dance floor.

The hair was by Maddison Voloshin for Davroe and featured glassy roots with a fluffy end, worn with a direct centre part.

“I took inspiration from Michael Lo Sordo’s collection. His suits are strong and his dresses are sexy. The hair emulated this… sleek, sexy and strong,” Voloshin tells GRAZIA.

“The hair was painted down with a mixture of CONSTRUCT, SMOOTHING BALM and ENDS REPAIR. I left two tendrils out around the front, and hit each style with REVIVE for textured movement. We then applied ENDS REPAIR on the ends, ad finished with a liberal spray of ULTIMATUM to set.”
