Penguin Random House won a heated auction to publish two books written by Barack Obama and Michelle Obama, reports Vanity Fair. While the couple will pen their books separately the rights were sold jointly for a massive $AUD84.6 million.

The publishing house will reportedly donate one million books to First Book, a non-for-profit organisation who provides books to disadvantaged children and to Open eBooks, the White House’s 2016 partner in it’s digital-education initiative.

“We are absolutely thrilled to continue our publishing partnership with President and Mrs. Obama,” said the chief executive of Penguin Random House, Markus Dohle. “With their words and their leadership, they changed the world, and every day, with the books we publish at Penguin Random House, we strive to do the same. Now, we are very much looking forward to working together with President and Mrs. Obama to make each of their books global publishing events of unprecedented scope and significance.”

While there is no word on whether the two books will be memoirs (please say yes!), it is reported the Obamas will donate part of their advances to charity.
