In the wake of the #MeToo movement, the global entertainment industry has been doing some soul-searching when it comes to power, equality, ethics and morals.

In her 2018 ARIA Awards Hall Of Fame induction speech, Kasey Chambers got to the heart of the matter in a typically Australian way the world should take notice of.

“You don’t need to be a d**khead to get ahead in this business,” a teary Chambers told the room of Australia’s most powerful music industry members at The Star.

“You don’t have to drag other people down in order to get to the top. You don’t have to treat people like s***.

“I am so proud to become a strong woman in the music industry, but I don’t think I am standing up here because I am a strong woman… I actually think I am standing up here because I’m just myself,” she said.

At 42, Chambers is the youngest female artist to be inducted into the ARIA Awards Hall of Fame and took home the coveted ARIA Award for Best Country Album.

Paying tribute, Missy Higgins, Amy Sheppard and Kate Miller-Heidke performed a rendition of Am I Not Pretty Enough?
