Ariana Grande gave the crowd watching Kygo at Coachella an unexpected bonus overnight, appearing on stage unannounced to sing new track No Tears Left To Cry.

Clad in a festival-appropriate outfit of purple crop-top, tulle fairy skirt and face glitter, to the crowd’s astonishment the singer walked out and started belting out the song.

Obviously, everybody lost it.

She also performed a rendition of Marvin Gaye’s classic soul track Sexual Healing.

Grande dropped her new release just a day before, so fans weren’t expecting to get to see a live performance of it so quickly.

Kygo’s set was also notable as the Norwegian DJ and producer paid tribute to Avicii, who died suddenly at the age of 28 in the early hours of Saturday AEST. The news broke just a few hours before the performance.

“Today is a very sad day for music,” he told the crowd.

“Earlier today, I got the news that Avicii passed away, only 28 years old. Avicii was my biggest musical inspiration, and he was the reason I started making music. So I don’t think I would have been on the stage if it wasn’t for him. And I know he has inspired a million other producers out there. We’ll miss you, buddy.”

He fittingly ended his set with Avicii’s Without You.
