Just as we came to learn of Marilyn Monroe‘s own struggles within the entertainment industry, it appears playing the blonde bombshell today isn’t that glamorous either. In an interview with Byrdie, Ana de Armas who is set to front the 1950s actress in Netflix biopic, Blonde, has revealed the lengths it took to emulate Monroe.

“I had to go bald every day, because with the blonde wigs… [Marilyn] went through different shades of blonde from golden to really platinum, so for these wigs that are beautifully made, you can’t have anything dark underneath, so we had to make a bald cap every single day from my forehead to [around] my whole head,” she explained to the publication.

The 32-year-old posted a selfie to Instagram wearing the aforementioned bald cap 18 months ago.

“It was like, three and a half hours every day of makeup. I think I actually cried the first time I saw [the wigs] on. Probably because I was terrified,” she continued. “But, I’m so proud.”

Based on Joyce Carol Oates’s novel of the same name, Blonde is produced by Brad Pitt. It is still not confirmed when the film will hit the streaming service. Joining de Armas, Sara Paxton will play Miss Flynn, Evan Williams will play Eddy, Toby Huss will play Whitey and Adrien Brody will front ‘The Playwright’ aka Arthur Miller.

Talking further on playing Monroe, de Armas added, “It felt incredible, it felt… also very exhausting. It was a lot of hard work to play her in what I think was a really honest way of portraying her.”

“Her life was not simple, because you really have to go deep into that period and what happened to her and her story and who she was, and maybe you know some of her story, but it was very intense.”

The Cuban-born actress will also appear in 007 film No Time To Die, released into cinemas from October, 2021.
