Speaking with Allure, 30-year-old Mean Girls star Amanda Seyfried openly and unabashedly discussed her personal mental health battle with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, widely known as OCD, and anxiety. In between talking about her hobbies (gardening, farming and taxidermy), she said her condition was something she’d suffered with for years.

“I’m on Lexapro, and I’ll never get off it,” she said. “I’ve been on it since I was 19, so 11 years. I’m on the lowest dose. I don’t see the point of getting off it.”

The 11 long years have been an eye opener and changer for Seyfried, who says, “as I get older, the compulsive thoughts and fears have diminished a lot”. She also relies on her psychological understanding of said fears. “Knowing that a lot of my fears are not reality-based really helps.”

She also fires up about the stigma surrounding mental health, stating “you don’t see the mental illness: It’s not a mass, it’s not a cyst,” she explained. “But it’s there. Why do you need to prove it? If you can treat it, you treat it.”

Known for her roles in films such as Mean Girls, Les Misérables, Mamma Mia! and Red Riding Hood, Amanda Seyfried has had an extensive career. With another three upcoming films, the big eyed blonde beauty has been keeping busy amidst having recently announced her engagement with her The Last Room co-star Thomas Sadoski.
