Hollywood’s golden girl Amanda Seyfried has candidly spoken about her mental health issues on Dr. Berlin’s Informed Pregnancy podcast, admitting to taking antidepressant Lexapro whilst pregnant with her first child.

The angel-faced actress and her fellow actor hubby, Thomas Sadoski, welcomed a baby girl in March this year.  In the pre-recorded podcast, the blonde beauty spoke about first pregnancy experience, and on making the decision to continue taking the medication she’s been using for over a decade.

“I didn’t get off my antidepressant. It’s really for anti-anxiety for me. I’ve been taking Lexapro for years and years and years, and I didn’t get off of it. I was on an extremely low dose.”

Lexapro is a medication commonly used to treat depression and anxiety. It’s classified as a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), and for those wondering, research has shown SSRIs are generally safe to take by expectant mums – phew!

Seyfried has always remained transparent about her mental health.  The Mamma Mia! and Mean Girls star told Allure last year that it’s what she’s been using since she was diagnosed with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) as a teen, AND she has no plans of ever coming off it. She went on to openly explain the specific symptoms of her condition in the podcast.

“It would take me a really long time to put my clothes away in the drawers. And it’s all about organization and if it doesn’t feel right you have to keep moving until it feels right, keep moving things around until they feel right. I have a thing with numbers, which is really common.”

Whilst Seyfried has continued guard the family’s privacy by remaining tight-lipped about the little ones name, and has (unfortunately for us) yet to share pictures on her Insta, she did admit the birth was smooth sailing and her little family are all doing well.
