Jennifer Lopez might have spent the weekend scrubbing every last trace of her relationship with Alex Rodriguez from social media, unfollowing her ex in the process, but instead of following suit, the MLB player is taking the high road.

In a new interview, his first since their split was announced in March, Rodriguez addressed his high-profile relationship with Lopez saying he’s “grateful” for the “incredible life” he had with her during their five years together.

“I had five years of an incredible life and partnership and also with my daughters, we learned so much,” the sports star told Entertainment Tonight in an interview published on Tuesday.

Rodriguez added he and his daughters—Natasha, 16, and Ella, 12, who had a close relationship with Lopez and her children—now have the “opportunity to take that and move forward and say, ‘You know what? We’re so grateful for the last five years, how do we make the next five years better because of lessons learned?’”

Though he avoided addressing Lopez’s rekindled relationship with Ben Affleck, which has seen the pair travelling the world together recently, even crossing paths superyacht style with Rodriguez in the South of France last month, Rodriguez did say he’s in a good place right now.

“I’m so grateful for where God and the light has really put me, and I’m really looking forward. Mostly to see how my girls keep developing,” he said, also managing to avoid addressing whether the rumours he’s dating sports journalist Melanie Collins are true

In March, after months of rumours about the state of their relationship following Rodriguez’s alleged Instagram flirting with reality TV star Madison LeCroy was made public, it was confirmed Lopez and Rodriguez had called off their engagement. Though the Southern Charm star told Page Six Rodriguez had never “physically cheated” on Lopez with her, a source told the outlet the scandal was the reason the pair finally broke up. “There were already problems, but Jennifer was really embarrassed by it,” they said at the time.
