It feels like just yesterday we were all learning Addison Rae’s name. The 20-year-old blew up on Tik Tok during lockdown, quickly becoming the second most followed person on the app (behind friend Charli D’Amelio). But it was what she did next that was career—and fame—cementing: she befriended the Kardashians.
When Kourtney Kardashian’s son, Mason, asked his mum to pull strings so he could meet Rae, the then-teenager lept at the opportunity, quickly befriending Kardashian and making headlines through bikini photos and casual paparazzi strolls around the city together.
What followed was a string of deals and career moves that would make Kris Jenner proud: Rae launched merch and her own a makeup line, was signed on in a lead acting role for the remake of the iconic ’90s film She’s All That (renamed He’s All That) and released her debut single, ‘Obsessed’ earlier this year. She even appeared on the final season of Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
But it’s not just her career that’s been Kardashianafied. So too has Rae’s image. Since befriending—or working with (depending on who you believe)—the Kardashians, Rae has been adopting the family’s style: bike shorts, crop tops, and barely-there bikinis to boot.
Now she’s in the final phase: using fashion just like the family’s two most famous members, Kim and Kylie, to grab headlines and, as the former would say, break the internet.
For the MTV Movie & TV Awards, Rae enlisted Zendaya’s stylist Law Roach to dress her, opting for a designer Zendaya herself has worn numerous times—Christopher Esber—but upping the Kardashian (read: sex) factor by wearing a barely-there top.
Rae, who was nominated in the Breakthrough Social Star category at the awards, wore a black skirt by Esber which comes with a silver chain across the stomach, as well as a black ultra-tiny boob tube, and a black blazer over the top for the red carpet.
The outfit prompted a Twitter meltdown with many millennials, in a true cheugy manner, confused as to who Rae is.

But that wasn’t Rae’s only internet-breaking moment of the night. Later, when presenting the award for Best Kiss, Rae and her ‘He’s All That’ co-star Tanner Buchanan surprised everyone by doing a Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams and kissing on stage.

Whether you loved or hated both moments, for the past 24 hours, all anyone’s talked about is Addison Rae—and that’s just what the momagers ordered.
