Tell your styling story by layering your looks to serve multiple purposes with little restraint. Take this eye-catching, romantic sheer embroidered dress. With a lightweight coat by Fendi, the silhouette will serve you through several seasons. In this A Stylist Take, I decided to include fragrances and beauty. What’s the last thing you tend to do prior to walking out the door beside a once over in the mirror or a quick touch-up of the lips? For me, a spritz of perfume puts me in the right frame of mind whether it’s for a showroom appointment or an evening event. At the moment, my favourite daytime scent is Hermes Barénia Eau De Parfum. It has a subtle release of woody chypre and patchouli layers and then a surprising release of delicate lily notes as it touches your skin. It’s an easy-to-wear kind of fragrance that subtly lingers on inoffensively throughout the day.

When it comes to complex layering, no better example is Miuccia Prada’s ability to eclectically mix retro and feminine tailoring for an artistic outcome that never seems to date. A master of all seasons, as seen here with Miu Miu’s shrunken peacoat cardigan cropped purposely to show the right amount of cornflower blue shirting and a timeless graphic midi skirt that initially seems more like summer than winter. I’ll be duplicating this idea of delayering my look as we move into the warmer months, knowing full well I’ll be keeping my shrunken knitwear close at hand.
Speaking of complexity, a sweet floral scent that has many dimensions is Dries Van Noten Jardin de l’Orangerie Eau de Parfum. The beautifully designed dual-coloured glass bottle reflects the duality inspired by nature: orange blossoms which go from sweet and opulent to milky and mature. Dries Van Noten may no longer be designing for the fashion label he created, but luckily for us he’s continuing his taste for the unexpected in the beauty space.
