After a three-year hiatus from a host at the Academy Awards, it was welcomed news last month when show producer Will Packer announced that Amy Schumer, Wanda Sykes and Regina Hall would join forces at the 2022 Oscars. The trio of actresses – all known for their comedic spirit – were chaotically introduced to the stage by DJ Khaled with an equally as hilarious opening monologue to follow. There was plenty of content to pull inspiration from this year and make no mistake, Schumer, Sykes and Hall delivered on all of it.

ON PAY INEQUALITY…

As we continue to champion for equal pay, the actresses couldn’t help but poke fun at the notion from the stage .”This year, the Academy hired three women to host,” Schumer shared, “because it’s cheaper than hiring one man.”

on the Florida ‘don’t sAY GAY’ BILL…

You would recall that this month, the state of Florida passed the highly controversial ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill. For a full explanation on the laws, here is a helpful resource. For viewers of the Oscars in the Southern state, this year’s hosts were sure to say “gay” over and over. “We’re going to have a great night tonight. And for you people in Florida, we’re going to have a gay night!” In unison they exclaimed, “Gay!” “Gay!” “Gay!”, to a roaring applause.

On The Nominations Snubs…

Sykes was sure to call out a few surprising snubs from the nominations list. More seriously on Jennifer Hudson for RESPECT and not so seriously on Lady Gaga and Jared Leto for “House of Random Accents”.

On Leonardo DiCaprio…

In speaking about the divisive Netflix film Don’t Look Up, the three hosts discussed Leonardo DiCaprio. But more so on his climate change activism. “Leonardo Dicaprio, what can I even say about him? He’s done so much to fight climate change and leave behind a cleaner, greener planet for his girlfriends… because they’re much younger.”

On The Golden Globes…

This awards season the Golden Globes was notably absent. Within the opening monologue Schumer asked, “Do you know who is in the ‘In Memorium’ package this year? The Golden Globes.” She then quipped, “They didn’t have any black people.”
