UPDATE – JULY 20 2016/3pm: Lady Gaga has released a very down-to-earth and touching statement on Instagram clarifying that she and Kinney are on a break. “Taylor and I have always believed we are soulmates. Just like all couples we have ups and downs, and we have been taking a break. We are both ambitious artists, hoping to work through long-distance and complicated schedules to continue the simple love we have always shared. Please root us on. We’re just like everybody else and we really love each other.”
Lady Gaga and fiancé Taylor Kinney have ended their relationship.
An industry insider confirmed the couple broke up earlier this month to TMZ and People, after TMZ published photos of the Born This Way singer not wearing her engagement ring on holidays in Mexico last week – on Taylor’s birthday.
Kinney’s commitment to filming NBC series Chicago Fire in Chicago may have put strain on the relationship. With the Grammy award-winner frequently on the road, the couple were likely spending a lot of time apart.
Gaga, real name Stefani Germanotta, met Kinney on the set of the music video for her song You And I in 2011, and they got engaged in February last year.
“I really can’t imagine being with anyone other than who I’m with right now,” she said during an interview with Howard Stern last year. “He is the right guy. I have that feeling. I just know it.”
It’s been a difficult year for Gaga. The Chinese government blacklisted her after she met with the Dalai Lama, which was broadcast on Facebook live. Her music is now banned on the mainland and she’s been publicly condemned by local media, which is likely to have a negative impact on her overall music sales – a concern especially since she’s set to release her fifth studio album later this year or early in 2017.
The follow-up to 2013’s ARTPOP is in collaboration with Mark Ronson.
