She may be a “brand ambassador” for CDFA Award-winning designer brand Coach, but Selena Gomez has proven she knows how to rock a less mainstream style icon’s wares too.
The singer was spotted yesterday backstage at the Brooklyn Barclays Center for a concert by boyfriend The Weeknd, dressed in a patent leather mini dress from Alexa Chung’s new fashion range, which was launched to much fanfare in London just last week. Not surprisingly, influencer and fashion icon Chung’s eponymous label taps into her signature vintage-inspired, feminine style with a street-look twist.
Likelihood is Gomez (or her stylist) are also tapped directly into Chung’s camp. This dress was released commercially in lilac, making the black option either a sample or an as yet unreleased hue. Either way, she added her own street spin with Gucci trainers and a retro tee underneath.

It’s the second time in a week the star, who’s repeatedly displayed her penchant for high street brands like Topshop and Zara in the past, has stepped out in Chung’s wares. Just days ago she was spotted in a striped mohair vest from the new range, teamed with frayed jeans and a J.W Anderson Pierce Bag.
Clearly, the starlet has no clauses in her Coach contract – which will see her star in the brand’s ads and co-design a pieces from time to time – that bans her from wearing other brands when she’s off duty. And all the better that is for street style watchers like us.

Despite her friends in high fashion places, Gomez also pointed to the fact she’s just like the rest of us yesterday with an Instagram story revealing her choice of pre-event meal.
“Hey Sel, what’re you doing?” asks a friend filming her from the back seat of a vehicle. “I got a cheesecake before my boyfriend’s concert,” replies the star before stuffing a fork full of Junior’s dessert into her mouth, straight out of the box.
