It seems Taylor Swift will always have as many haters as she does fans – her recent singles Look What You Made Me Do and Ready For It have garnered equal amounts of adoration and condemnation from the public.

But one person definitely on Taylor’s side is her friend and collaborator Zayn Malik – after meeting through Malik’s girlfriend/Taylor’s close friend Gigi Hadid, the two recorded one of the biggest hits of last year, I Don’t Wanna Live Forever.

In a new interview with The Fader, Malik wasn’t afraid to stand up for Swift.

“I rate her as an artist, I think she’s cool, I think she’s successful,” Zayn said when asked about Swift and the criticism of her new music.

“I think she deserves her success because she’s worked hard. That’s just how I look at it.

“I did a song with her, it was fun, she was professional,” he continued.

“She gets on with my girlfriend, they’re good friends. I don’t have a bad word to say about her. She’s cool.”

While he technically didn’t say if he liked her new music, as the interviewer asked him, it’s hard to interpret Malik’s response as anything but full support for Swift.

Looks like Zayn and Ruby Rose are still firmly in Taylor’s squad, if noone else.
