Kanye West’s relationship with Jay Z appears to be more strained than ever, but it seems the rapper is at least making new friends.

As America celebrates the 4th of July holiday, Kanye, Kim Kardashian and their children North and Saint enjoyed a barbecue with rapper 2Chainz and his family.

2Chainz posted a photo of the whole gang on Instagram, captioning it “Family pic”.

It’s tempting to see this as Kimye throwing shade at Beyonce and Jay Z given the timing, although we’ll stop short of that since it wasn’t posted by Kimye.

But if we know anything about Kim and Kanye, it’s that the couple must be looking to publicly align themselves with new faces as their once tight friendship with Beyonce and Jay Z – people Yeezy would have once thought of as ‘family’ – deteriorates.

Things have been strained between the two famous couples for a while now – Kanye called them out in an on-stage and last year, and Kim and Queen Bey reportedly had a tense phone call – but it seems their relationship is damaged beyond repair after reports of possible legal action between Kanye and Jay Z’s streaming platform Tidal.

Kanye claims to be owed millions by the company – something Tidal refutes – and when Yeezy threatened to pull his music from the service, he was threatened with a breach of contract lawsuit.

Jay Z also slams his former BFF in the lyrics of Kill Jay Z, a song on his new album 4:44, rapping:

“I know people backstab you, I feel bad too.

“But this f*ck everybody’ attitude ain’t natural/ But you ain’t the same, this ain’t KumbaYe/ But you got hurt because you did cool by ‘Ye/ You gave him 20 million without blinkin’/ He gave you 20 minutes on stage, f*ck was he thinkin’?/ ‘F*** wrong with everybody?’ is what you sayin’/ But if everybody’s crazy, you’re the one that’s insane.”

RIP, one of rap’s great bromances. In memory of happier times: wine and LOLs after last years’ MTV Video Music Awards.
