Blake Lively has signed on to star in the big screen adaptation of The Husband’s Secret.

The film is based on the 2013 book by Australian author Liane Moriarty, who also wrote Big Little Lies, the novel that became the hit HBO show.

In the thriller Blake will play the central protagonist, a wife and mother who discovers her husband has been keeping a secret from her that changes everything she thought she knew about their life.

“Liane Moriarty has established herself as one of the defining voices of the modern woman and Blake Lively’s unique combination of vulnerability, strength, and extraordinary talent makes her the perfect actress to realise Moriarty’s creation,” said CBS Films President Terry Press.

Since rising to fame on Gossip Girl, Blake has mostly escaped appearing in any movies that have bombed. Even though her face off with a shark in The Shallows didn’t impress the critics, it still pulled in $119 million at the box office.

Her next film is psychological thriller All I See Is You, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival and is set for release in the US in August. Similar to the premis of The Husband’s Secret, it’s about a woman who realises her husband has been keeping secrets from her when she begins to regain her sight after being blind.
