Lady Gaga is the latest star to hitch a ride with James Corden for Carpool Karaoke, and she made sure it was one of the most compelling performances on the viral segment yet.
The singer, whose new album Joanne was released last week, lived up to her reputation as a vocal master, belting out her songs with heart and soul, including Bad Romance, Born This Way, Perfect Illusion and a goosebump-inducing rendition of emotional ballad Million Reasons, which is believed to be about her ex-fiance Taylor Kinney, who she split from in July.
Dressed in a gold sequined top and the pink, wide-brimmed hat she wears on the Joanne album artwork, the Grammy Award-winner also offered up a few interesting tid-bits, including that she owns around 400 pieces of Michael Jackson’s clothing that are preserved in a temperature-controlled room. She also described the moment she got her driver’s licence just this year, revealing how her entire family went with her for the test and that her father was brought to tears when she passed.
It was this fact that saw her take the wheel at one point – something no guest has done before – with Corden jokingly putting on a safety helmet just in case. The late night host also gave this episode his all, donning several replicas of some of Gaga’s most iconic outfits, going as far as to recreate the meat dress she wore to the 2010 Video Music Awards, the smell of which had Gaga covering her nose and mouth.
Some past guests have left viewers disappointed, such as Britney Spears and Mariah Carey who barely sang. But perfectionist Gaga, ever dedicated to giving a flawless performance and satisfying her millions of fans, just raised the bar.
