The overarching conclusion drawn from Kanye West’s unveil of Yeezy Season 4 in New York City today had more to do with the fainting models than the collection’s minimalistic comparisons to previous seasons.

West had organised for guests to be picked up, via shuttle buses, from Midtown Manhattan and transferred to Roosevelt Island – the narrow trip of land in between Manhattan and Queens and Long Island. In the 19th century, the island housed several hospitals and a prison, an ironic fact given today’s events.

Yeezy reportedly made fashion’s most respected wait in “holding pens” before models took their position in the same static way as Season 3 in February, where they then remained for two hours in a blistering NYC heatwave, eventually collapsing one by one. Labelled an “abomination” by The Cut’s Stella Bugbee, she then took aim at Adidas who she says “should be ashamed.”

If West and his long-time collaborator and choreographer Vanessa Beecroft thought only casting multiracial models would be the most controversial part of this show, they were indeed wrong. And what a shame given West’s Madison Square Garden shows have been so impressive.

No word from the designer post-show just yet.
