After showing up for their girl at Wimbledon in July, Beyonce and Jay Z have again supported Serena Williams by attending her match at the US Open in New York on Friday.
The superstar couple, fresh from celebrating Beyonce’s record-breaking night at the VMAs, watched as Williams took on Vania King and won, 6-3, 6-3. Bey and Jay’s presence may have spooked King, as the player told ESPN.
“I looked up and was like, ‘Oh sh*t! Beyoncé is watching!”

But in all seriousness, Williams, who made a cameo in Beyonce’s Sorry music video, revealed after the match that she invites the couple to strengthen her competitive edge.
“Usually when people are there, I try to play better, especially if they’re famous and they’re doing so great at their job,” the revealed.

“It’s like I want to show them that I’m good at my job, too—minus today,” she added, referring to the shoulder injury that’s been plaguing her.
Still, she won, as she did in Wimbledon. So it seems wanting to impress Beyonce and Jay Z – or even just not f*ck up in front of them – really is an effective motivational strategy. Whatever works.
