Selena Gomez recently spent time in a rehab facility to recover from severe burnout, and she’s revealed she was without her phone for the entirety of the 90-day stay.
Most of us would find it unthinkable to go without our personal devices for three days, let alone three months, so the 24-year-old’s digital detox is a surprise – especially to her technology obsessed teenage fan base.
“I recently took 90 days off [using my phone]” she revealed in a Q&A with Thrive Global. “During that time I did not have my cellphone. It was the most refreshing, calming, rejuvenating feeling.”
The 24-year-old said she reset her digital habits and has massively reduced the amount of time she spends on her devices.
“Now I rarely pick up my phone, and only limited people have access to me.”
The extreme measure is no doubt a strategy for the megastar to manager her depression and anxiety issues in the spotlight.
Coincidentally, within hours of Selena’s Q&A with Thrive going live, Instagram announced its list of the 10 most popular celebrities on the app. Incredibly, Gomez topped it with 103 million followers, despite her three-month hiatus from posting – she shared her first update since August just last week.
