Details that have emerged about Margot Robbie’s Byron Bay wedding this week have formed a picture of a day that rejected extravagance and embraced her down-to-earth Australian roots, from the cheeky way she announced her marriage to Tom Ackerley on Instagram to the serving of Coco Pops for dessert.

So the news that her dress was not designed by a luxury fashion house, but was once her mother Sarie Kessler’s own wedding dress, is fitting. The Courier-Mail reports that the Wolf Of Wall Street star had the 30-year-old gown altered by Gold Coast designer Casey Tanswell just a week before the wedding.

“(Tanswell) had been approached by a friend to do the alterations,” an insider told the newspaper.

“She didn’t know it was Margot until she turned up at her home for the fitting.”

In pictures published by News.com.au, Margot’s dress was revealed to be an off-the-shoulder number cinched at the waist with a ribbon.

It’s a beautiful tribute from Margot to her mum, who she is known to be especially close to. E News! reported that Sarie gave Margot away because she is estranged from her father, and in 2014 it was revealed that the actress paid off the mortgage on Sarie’s Southport home as a 60th birthday gift.
