Let’s be frank: It was obvious from the very beginning that Fifth Harmony member Camila Cabello should never have been put into a group on the U.S. X Factor in 2012. She was too good and Simon Cowell, you made a big mistake. Marc Anthony even knew that at home visits but it was Demi Lovato who was actually brave enough to say it, spurred on by Khloe Kardashian, that is. Now, amid news Cabello has left the girl band, it appears Lovato picked it from quite literally day one.

When Fifth Harmony took to the stage for the first time on the reality show four years ago, judge Lovato claimed there was only one stand-out “shining” performer in the group. Kardashian who was hosting the show at the time prodded Lovato to reveal who she was talking about. She refused to say. Kardashian had another go. “I want to know and I think they should know so they can work better together!”, she said. Lovato pointed to Cabello quipping, “I think you guys should all learn something from her.” See the footage here.

Fifth Harmony – who went on to finish third in the competition – have managed to stay in the charts for four years. On December 18, the day after her contract was up, Cabello announced she was leaving the group. The band released a statement citing “we have been informed via her representatives that Camila has decided to leave Fifth Harmony. We wish her well.” Cabello – who will launch her solo career in 2017 – responded to the statement’s wording saying she was shocked to read it “without my knowing” and that she wishes nothing but the best for them.

Still, Lovato really was onto something. Cabello was always the shining star. Such evidence is in the 2016 video below. Can the four harmonisers continue without her?
