Whether it’s complimentary hair treatment at the basin, a sachet sample at the counter or a classic gift-with-purchase – the beauty world is built around the delights of the occasional freebie. However perhaps some push primping perks a tad too far. Case in point? Tiffany Trump and her mother, Marla Maples, who asked a hairstylist to do their hair and make-up for free for Inauguration Day.
Despite the President-elect’s family’s bragging over their endless wealth and high profile business dealing, freelance hairstylist, Tricia Kelly experienced a different story when she was approached to style the duo on the big day.
According to The Washington Post, Kelly was first asked to cut her standard fee down from $150 for travel plus costs for services down to $300 in total for the two blondes. After some further negotiations, the Trump team finally came back with another offer for the tress tender – free.
Offering “exposure” and social media shout-outs in lieu of a fee, to which The Post reports she replied: “I was stunned. I told them . . . I work for a fee, not for free.” Upon finding out that Kelly refused the gig, the hairstylist said she started receiving semi-threatening text messages from her pals who put her in touch with the President-elect daughter’s team in the first place. Yikes.
So just who did the Trumps get to tong for nothing? Only time, and perhaps the Instagram tag come Friday, will tell.
