On July 15, Prince Harry arrived in Angola for an unannounced trip, however, his wife Meghan Markle wasn’t seen with him. Royal sources have now alleged this is due to security concerns.
The trip itself is an effort from Prince Harry to drive donations from the government of Angola to The HALO Trust, an organisation which works to clear landmines and other explosives left on the land after conflict.
It was a cause first supported by the late Princess Diana, when in 1997 she visited Angola herself and walked through an active minefield to draw international awareness to the issue.
Prince Harry mirrored his mother’s steps quite literally, when he recreated the shot by doing the same. Something he has done twice before this, on previous trips.
On carrying on his mother’s legacy, he said, “[it] is a responsibility I take incredibly seriously.”
While Markle and the Prince are oft seen jointly supporting various philanthropic causes, regarding this visit, a source told the Daily Mail that security concerns prevented this.
“The Duke won’t let his wife go to England over security concerns,” commented the insider. “So, there was no chance he’d allow her to go to Angola to walk across landmines.”
This refers to Prince Harry’s comments earlier this year, stating he “can’t see a world” in which he would bring his wife and children to England, following the removal of their security details. The concern is understandable.
Nonetheless, the Prince seems resolutely dedicated to championing his mother’s causes, all the while ensuring the safety and wellbeing of his family, that he and Markle have long fought to establish.
