With the last few months curiously absent of the slew of micro aesthetics that plagued last year, trust perennial It girl Alexa Chung to revive two of the most viral trends from years past in the single look. Indeed, the model and style muse took to social media to showcase her wedding guest dress, which surprisingly combines cores we had previously thought abandoned to the annals of fashion history: coquette and succubus chic.

If Gigi Hadid’s recent display of nuptial dressing epitomised the ‘very demure, very mindful’ trend, Chung’s take is far from the discernable movements of 2024. Instead, the piece feels reminiscent of 2023 with the flirty bow and body-conscious black cotton material inviting comparisons to pieces debuted on the runways of Sandy Liang, Simone Rocha or Cecilie Bahnsen.

Given Chung’s penchant for spotlighting emerging designers and ‘IYKYK’ brands, the former fashion designer selected a piece from emerging designer Super Yaya. Created by Central Saint Martins graduate Rym Beydoun in 2016, the ready-to-wear women’s label focuses on textile manipulation, feminine themes and dual roots in West Africa and the Middle East. They’ve collaborated on custom woven bouquet holders for New York-based tableware brand Gohar World and Kendall Jenner was spotted wearing a piece in 2019.

However, for Chung’s latest outing, it almost seems that the dress was literally made for her despite debuting in January this year as part of the brand’s  “Soyons Heureux” or “Let’s Be Happy” collection. Chung originally wrote “🥵” in the comments of the brand’s Instagram post revealing the design, signalling that the dress has been living in her head rent-free since then.

Perhaps drawing inspiration from this interaction, the piece in question is fittingly called the “Alexa” and is currently available to purchase for AUD $3271 on SSENSE if you’re already ready to herald the return of these motifs.
