It’s common knowledge – at least for those of us that religiously keep up with the Kardashians – that Kanye West has had a massive influence on wife Kim Kardashian’s style throughout the years. Some have gone as far as to say that he was the catalyst responsible for her style evolution – remember that 2012 KUWTK episode when he ruthlessly cleaned out her closet to get rid of her “uncool” designer garments whilst she (and we) looked on in horror and ugly-cried? Ah, some things don’t change.

Kardashian clearly takes her other-half’s advice to heart, letting him style her in outfits from his label, Yeezy, for years. The world has watched on as her signature style elevated from bandage dresses and OTT animal print to custom-made chic and sleek outfits from high-fashion powerhouses including Givenchy and Balmain.

Now on a recent episode of the series, Kardashian revealed her hubby is not yet done with his style interventions, this time offering tips regarding accessories.

“[Kanye] sent me a whole email like, ‘You cannot wear big glasses anymore. It’s all about tiny little glasses,’” Kardashian told her sister Kourtney and bestie Jonathan Cheban over lunch, referring to the Matrix-style pair she was wearing which were hand-selected by him. The rapper/designer even sent her an inspirational mood board to really drill the message home.

“He sent me like, millions of ’90s photos with tiny little glasses,” she added.

The trend is the latest in the ‘90s retro style revival – cue crop tops and mum jeans. Skimpy sunnies should just cover your eye sockets – no bigger. It’s a difficult look to get right and not exactly flattering on everyone.

Apart from Kardashian, many of Hollywood’s It-girls apparently agree with West. Selena Gomez and the trend-setting Jenner and Hadid sisters have all been seen sporting a pair of miniature specs. Rihanna even took the trend to the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival in 2017, evening gown and all.

Best worn perched on the bridge of your nose, teeny-tiny glasses are the perfect accessory for throwing not so subtle side-eye shade, but not at all helpful for actually shading your eyes from the sun.  Ironic, but who ever said fashion was practical?

Moral of the story: bigger is no longer better, at least when it comes to eyewear. However, maybe refrain from discarding your trusty aviators for now – these micro-frames will do little to mask a hangover from hell come Monday morning.
