It seems all anyone can talk about lately is Mugler, and rightfully so. The French fashion house—launched in 1973 by French designer Thierry Mugler— is having a major moment. In December 2017, Mugler announced American designer Casey Cadwallader as its new creative director, and it’s safe to say that he revived the namesake fashion label by introducing a modern-day approach to the archival pieces that Mugler is affectionately known for.

Cadwallader’s most recent design hitting the headlines thanks to celebrity fans is a sultry cutout dress you’ve most definitely seen on Instagram. The distinctive number debuted in Mugler’s Spring-Summer 2021 show, worn by Pose actress Dominque Jackson. The 21st-century rendition of classic Mugler silhouettes embodies femininity, sexuality, and body positivity—all things Cadwallader holds dear to his vision for the fashion house.

The cutout silhouette reminds us of Versace’s iconic safety pin dress. What some might debate put Elizabeth Hurley on the map as a fashion icon in 1994, the Versace dress made headlines for its uniqueness and sexy slit held together by—you guessed it—safety pins.  Naturally, the memorable style moment is still one that fashion aficionados still fawn over to this day.

All things considered, the Mugler dress faces a similar fate. After all, it hasn’t stopped generating headlines. Megan Fox recently wore the fierce look at the MTV Movie & TV Awards, and before that, Kim Kardashian also wore a vintage version of the dress back in 2019 for the 5th Annual Hollywood Beauty Awards. Naturally, both celebrities nearly broke the internet after debuting their respective dresses.

And those who aren’t wearing the exact dress have been sporting similar skin-baring styles from the designer, including A-listers like SZA, Madison Beer, and Billie Eilish (see: her viral British Vogue cover shoot). If you’ve been considering adding more Mugler to your wardrobe, consider this your sign to do so…now.
