The British media is having a field day with photos of Prince William on a boys’ weekend in Swiss ski town Verbier, including a boozy lunch with some beautiful young women. Add to that most of the Royal family were at Westminster Abby to mark Commonwealth Day, and we have the makings of a royal scandal.

At the centre of it all is Australian model Sophie Taylor, a 24-year-old from Terrigal on the NSW Central Coast who works at a Verbier ski resort. She was pictured high-fiving the Duke of Cambridge over a table littered with half-drunk beers, glasses of wines and Jager bombs, and enjoyed an hours’ long drinking session with William.

An eye witness told The Sun, “William and his pals had skied to the restaurant, while the girls came up the mountain specially to meet them. The boys ate lunch and the girls joined them for a load of drinks.

“Once they’d finished skiing for the day, they all met up with the girls again at another bar.”

The latter claim is backed up by footage obtained by TMZ, which shows Wills dancing and looking … sufficiently lubricated in a dimly lit nightclub. (Those stiff dance moves might be the biggest scandal of all).

Being married and a royal doesn’t mean that partying with anyone of the opposite sex aside from his wife is forbidden, but you have to admit the Duke of Cambridge drinking with some much younger women while Kate is at home with the kids is not the best look, especially since the Royal family has tools at their disposal to protect themselves from the eye of the media and the public if they wish.

But further playing down signs of anything more than innocent fun between Prince William and Sophie is that she too is in a relationship; the Daily Telegraph reports she lives in Verbier with her bartender-turned-chef boyfriend Adam Goodfellow.

Most of us wouldn’t see anything wrong with our boyfriends, husbands, brothers or sons doing what William did, but as a Royal he’s expected to behave more conservatively than the average person. It’s a balancing act he and Prince Harry have to walk as modern men living lives bound by strict tradition.
