In a sea of cult-status beauty collections and make-up kits that sell out in a second (or 60, in the case of Kylie Jenner’s latest Kyshadow palette offering, which was literally gone in 60 seconds) it takes something special to spark hysteria amongst beauty junkies. Not that Pat McGrath has to worry. Every time the make-up master, backstage veteran and woman responsible for starting roughly 98%* of make-up trends over the past 20 years, launches a new product from Pat McGrath Labs, mania ensues amongst beauty buffs and fashion lovers alike.

McGrath hinted at a new offering during Haute Couture Autumn/Winter 16, when she sent supernaturally, sparkly lips down the Versace catwalk. Bella Hadid, Taylor Hill and Karen Elson were all lucky enough to wear the gilded lips for the show, Hadid snapping a selfie backstage saying, “Major lip today at @versace_official by Mother @patmcgrathreal.”

Finally the secret is out, and it was worth the wait. ‘Lust 004’ is a collection lip kits, inspired by lips McGrath has painted and created throughout her career.  “So they reveal the real secrets of lip art—all the tricks I’ve been using backstage and on photo shoots since day one,” McGrath told Allure. Each kit contains two matte lipsticks, one gloss and different variations of gold pigment and glitter shades, which can be mixed and blended for different effect.

“What I love is that the extremes of makeup are now actually the norm. These are things I’ve been doing for 20 years. It’s all about encouraging experimentation,” McGrath told W magazine, explaining she mixed her own Vermillion Venom and Blood Wine shades to create Rihanna’s crystal-layered lips for their recent cover. “This is for girls who are not only models, and not only girls. Everyone. Everyone LOVES to experiment with makeup and everyone wants to achieve the impossible.”

The kits will set you back US$150, but you do have the option of buying the matte lipsticks on their own if glitter isn’t your thing. Available from Sephora US on August 30th, there’s no word yet on whether the collection will be available on our shores so consider this your 25 day warning to reconnect with any State-side friends who could snap you up a kit at the end of the month.
