After keeping fans waiting for close to two years, Lorde has announced she’s set to drop a new single tomorrow, Green Light.

The Kiwi artist shared a teaser of the song and music video on a new website, and added a few words about the track via a series of tweets.

“I am so overjoyed to finally announce that my first single, GREEN LIGHT, is coming out tomorrow,” she wrote. “I am so proud of this song. It’s very different, and kinda unexpected. It’s complex and funny and sad and joyous and it’ll make you DANCE.”

The 20-year-old added that Green Light is the summation of her life over the past two years since she rose to the top of the music industry as such a young age, and began work on her second album.

“It’s the first chapter of a story I’m gonna tell you, the story of the last two wild, fluorescent years of my life. This is where we begin.”

Lorde also led fans on a treasure hint similar to Katy Perry’s strategy for the recent release of Chained To The Rhythm. She posted a map of Auckland on social media and marked the points where people could discover teasers of the Green Light song and video.

The Grammy nominee signed a reported $2.5 million deal with Songs Music Publishing for after a bidding war between several record companies for the follow-up to Pure Heroine, which sold more than 1.5 million copies worldwide.

In November she described the lyrics on her new album as “the best I’ve written in my life”.

Green Light is set to drop at 6am Friday AEST.
