Karl Lagerfeld has laid some of the blame for Kim Kardashian being robbed at gunpoint in Paris on the star herself, saying she not have publicised her valuable jewellery on social media.

“I don’t understand why she was in a hotel with no security and think like this,” the Chanel designer who has worked with the Kardashians on a number of fashion projects, told The Telegraph on Tuesday.

“If you are that famous and you put all your jewellery on the net, you [should] go to hotels where nobody can come near to the room.

“You cannot display your wealth and then be surprised that some people want to share it with you.”

It comes as TMZ reports Paris police and the Kardashian family believe the robbery, which saw thieves put a gun to Kim’s head and make off with around USD $10 million in jewellery, was an inside job, and that it was no coincidence the criminals struck during a rare window when Kim was not accompanied by her bodyguard Pascal Duvier – he was with Kendall Jenner and Kourtney Kardashian at a nightclub.

“They think the robbers were tipped off it was the right time to strike,” TMZ reports.

“They are convinced someone tipped off the robbers to strike at precisely the moment they could get in and out without detection.”

Kim was in her apartment at exclusive residence The Pourtales when a group of men entered the building, put a gun to the concierge’s head and ordered him to take them to her room where the terrifying ordeal occurred. She has since returned to the US and reunited with husband Kanye West in New York.
