Kanye West was booed at his Saint Pablo Tour concert in California on Thursday night after he spoke of his support for Donald Trump during the show.

The rapper gave a controversial speech in which he admitted that while he did not vote in the US election, he “would have voted for Trump”.

“I wanted to say that before the election, but they told me, ‘Whatever you do, don’t say that aloud,’” he told the audience.

“Not only did I not vote, but there were a lot of things I actually liked about Trump’s campaign. His approach was f*cking genius – because it worked,” he continued, not elaborating on why he chose not to go to the ballot box.

Responding to the booing that began in the crowd from those that do not support Trump and his hostile approach to America’s black, Hispanic, Muslim, LGBTQ and female population, Kanye said that doesn’t mean he doesn’t support minorities.

“That don’t mean I don’t think that black lives matter,” he said. “That don’t mean that I don’t believe in women’s rights. That don’t mean that I don’t believe in gay marriage. That don’t mean that I don’t believe in these things.”

Kanye’s opinion on Trump is at odds with his wife Kim Kardashian, who spoke openly of her support for Hillary Clinton, saying “I stand with Hillary. I’m with her. I believe Hillary will best represent our country and is the most qualified for the job.”

In fact, it’s even at odds with Kanye’s political track record – he donated money to Clinton’s presidential campaign last year.

Kanye may just be taking cues on how Trump secured the presidency to learn for his own campaign – he has stated several times recently that he intends to run for president in 2020. After Donald Trump, the idea of President West doesn’t sound so crazy anymore.
