Earlier this week it was reported Kanye West had called off the lavish party he planned to throw Kim Kardashian for her 36th birthday, and had organised something else instead.

Now we know what it is.

The rapper has produced a sentimental video montage of home movies from Kim’s childhood, set to an instrumental of his slow, emotional track Only One.

The five-minute clip reveals never-before seen footage of the Kardashian family long before they became a household name, showing Kim from when she was about to start first grade until her high school years.

Kim’s late father Robert Kardashian features in a lot of the footage or can be heard behind the camera, making it an especially emotional collection.

Kanye shared the video on Twitter on Saturday with the message ‘Happy Birthday Babe’, and within three hours it had more than 100,000 retweets.

The heartfelt gift in lieu of a public display or extravagant jewellery (although he may have given her that too) proves Kanye knows what his wife needs now, after going through the traumatising ordeal of being robbed at gunpoint in Paris this month: a reminder of the love and support of her family who were there long before the world knew who she was, and will still be there if she never posts another selfie again.
